Radar DSP Engineer
Austin, TX
Full Time
Experienced
Radar DSP Engineer
Our client is hiring a Radar DSP Engineer to build the signal processing behind our software-defined
radar systems. Our radars combine modern DSP and machine learning to detect, classify, and track
drones in difficult real-world environments.
You'll work directly with raw radar data, develop detection and tracking algorithms, and get them
running on deployed hardware. The job includes software development, lab work, outdoor testing, and
regular iteration based on measured results.
What You'll Work On
- Build real-time radar processing pipelines for drone detection and tracking
- Implement range, Doppler, velocity, and angle-estimation algorithms
- Develop adaptive detection methods, including CFAR
- Reduce clutter, interference, noise, and false alarms
- Develop beamforming, direction-finding, and array-calibration techniques
- Use radar signatures and micro-Doppler data for target classification
- Train and evaluate machine-learning models for classification and false-alarm reduction
- Build multi-target tracking, association, and trajectory-estimation algorithms
- Fuse radar tracks with passive RF, acoustic, Remote ID, and ADS-B detections
- Optimize processing for embedded CPUs, GPUs, or FPGAs
- Build tools for collecting, visualizing, labeling, and analyzing radar data
- Plan and run field tests to measure detection range, accuracy, and reliability
- Work with RF, hardware, embedded, and software engineers to improve system performance
- Debug problems found during field testing and deployment
- Move new algorithms from prototype code into production
- Kalman filtering, JPDA, MHT, or other multi-target tracking methods
- Micro-Doppler analysis or radar-based target classification
- Machine learning applied to radar, time-series, or other sensor data
- Sensor fusion and track correlation across multiple detection sources
- GPU acceleration, CUDA, SIMD, or FPGA-based signal processing
- Embedded Linux development
- Radar simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Outdoor systems operating in cluttered or changing environment
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field
Tools and Systems
- Radar platforms, antenna arrays, RF front ends, and high-speed data acquisition
- Real-time detection, beamforming, classification, tracking, and sensor-fusion pipelines
- C++, Python, MATLAB, Linux, and embedded compute platforms
- Distributed sensing, telemetry, and airspace-monitoring infrastructure
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who can take a radar problem from raw data to a field-tested solution.
Required Experience
- Strong fundamentals in digital signal processing and radar systems
- Experience working with raw radar or complex I/Q data
- Understanding of FFTs, digital filtering, spectral analysis, detection, and estimation
- Experience developing radar detection or tracking algorithms
- Strong C++ skills
- Experience with Python or MATLAB for analysis and prototyping
- Experience building or optimizing real-time signal-processing software
- Ability to evaluate performance using recorded and live sensor data
- Hands-on experience testing and debugging complete systems
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, applied physics, or a related
field - or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Experience
- FMCW, pulse-Doppler, MIMO, or phased-array radar
- UAV or counter-UAS radar systems
- CFAR, beamforming, angle-of-arrival estimation, pulse compression, and clutter rejections
- Work with noisy and incomplete real-world data
- Move between algorithm development, production code, lab testing, and field work
- Diagnose problems across hardware and software
- Make decisions based on measured system performance
- Work quickly while maintaining sound engineering practices
- Take responsibility for a technical problem through deployment
Benefits
- Health, Dental, and Vision: 100% of employee premiums and 80% of dependent premiums covered
- Compensation: Competitive salary with performance-based bonuses
- Equity: Stock options offering ownership in what you're building
- Retirement: 401(k) plan
- Insurance: Life, short-term disability, and long-term disability coverage
- Perks: Free daily lunch and dinner, with snacks and drinks stocked in the office
